Hargreaves Steps Down From Coaching Role

Richie Hargreaves has announced that he is to step down from his coaching role with the Bristol Pitbulls with immediate effect.

Hargreaves has been the head coach since the team formed in 2009. In that time, he won promotion from the old English National League South Division 2 at the first attempt and led the team to a league/playoff double in 2015.

But, perhaps his biggest achievement was keeping a team motivated for so many years under difficult circumstances while the team were forced to play all of their games away from home. And it is the possibility of that coming to an end that has led to his decision.

Hargreaves said: “There’s bigger fish to fry and it’s an opportunity now for someone else to put their spin on it and have some fun like I did.

“It’s a good time with the rink around the corner to channel my energy into other areas.”

Hargreaves will continue to be ever-present as he manages the team’s step up into NIHL1 and even plans to play for one more year before hanging up the skates.

Look out for our podcast interview with Richie in the coming days.

The Bristol Pitbulls are also scheduled to announce his replacement as Head Coach next week.
