Jay Warren Joins Pitbulls

Exciting forward, Jay Warren, has committed to the Bristol Pitbulls for the 2021-22 season.

Twenty-year old Jay Warren is already a proven goal scorer at NIHL South Division 1. Having come up through the highly rated Swindon Ice Hockey Academy, he stepped up to their senior ranks in the 2018-19 season. He immediately made an impact, including scoring the first two goals in his team’s NIHL2 road game against Bristol.

That brought him to the attention of the Division 1 clubs and a two-way contract with Cardiff’s NIHL1 team the following season. He finished 7th in points and 5th in assists in the lower league and immediately looked comfortable in the higher level. Despite playing fewer games than the majority of his team-mates, Warren still finished top on assists and fourth on points for the team after forming a formidable partnership with Reed Sayers.

Warren said: “I’m excited to start a new journey playing with a new team. Jamie approached me and explained how the club was going to work and what their plans were going to be going forward and it only made me want to get going even faster.

“The new rink and being back in Bristol is great for the team and everyone. I can’t wait to get playing in the new building and seeing some fans get on board cheering us the whole way.

“I would like to thank Jamie and Richie for giving me this chance to play for a well known team, and even better in ENL1, and just can’t wait to get started.”

Coach Jamie Elson said: “We are excited to have Jay signed to be a Bristol Pitbull for this season ahead. He had interest from other teams so it’s great to get him committed to us and I know he’s looking forward to getting started.

“At 20 years old, Jay is a young guy with a great offensive upside.  He mixed last season between Swindon NIHL2, where had he was over 2 points and game, and Cardiff Fire NIHL1, where he was over a point a game. He’s a scoring threat every time he steps foot on the ice and that will be exciting to see. He is also a real competitor and agitator type player. The type of guy you hate to play against, but love to have on your team. He’ll get under the opposition’s skin and try and get them off their game every night.

“We can’t wait to see him out playing in a Pitbulls jersey.”

Warren’s jerseys will be Owned and Loaned by Anne-Marie Goodman. He is still available for player sponsorship through our Adopt a Pitbull programme. Email Richie Hargreaves at sponsorship@bristolpitbulls.co.uk for more details.
