Hungarian forward, Tamas Elias, has agreed to join the Bristol Pitbulls for the 2021-22 season.
Elias is a familiar face to the Bristol Pitbulls, having played most of his senior hockey for the various Cardiff NIHL teams. He left the Welsh club in 2019 to join Bracknell Hornets where he linked up with fellow new Pitbull, Steve Osman.
However, Elias is excited to be joining the team in the city that he calls home.
Elias said: “After moving to Bristol 12 years ago finally I’ll have my first season with the Pitbulls. After having a chat with Jamie and hearing the plans that he’s wanting to do, I was definitely sure that I wanted to join the team.
“Seeing the players that we have already signed and the potential players, you know its going to be a good, strong season for the Bristol Pitbulls and I get to be a part of that experience.
“As for the fans, they are incredible! Driving to Oxford on a regular basis for home games, always filling up the rink, bringing the noise, creating an amazing atmosphere!
“Just seeing the rink develop and the team coming together, it’s gonna be fun.”
A constant threat in what was, at times, a fierce local derby, Elias was Cardiff’s joint top scorer in the last game he played against Bristol. But, it wasn’t just as a goal-scoring threat that Elias made his presence felt. Something that he’s hoping the dressing room will forgive and forget.
“On a few occasions, I did end up in a few players personal space and to say I’m thankful to play with them rather than against them is an understatement to say the least.
“I know I’m a fast player who can handle the puck well and don’t get too nervous when in an intense situation. Missing out a year and a half of a season was challenging but I was more motivated than ever, going to the gym and keeping myself fit and ready for whenever the seasons starts.”
Pitbulls coach, Jamie Elson, was delighted that a player he had already worked with got in touch with the team.
Elson said: “Tamas was already in contact with Richie about his interest in playing for us when we moved to the new rink. I’d already worked with him when he was an U18 and he joined Cardiff Juniors, where he came and made a big impact. So, as soon as Richie passed me his name when I took over, I thought he’d be a great fit for what we are trying to build.
“He’s a really hard working guy, is happy to go to the corners and net front and battle hard. He has a good skill set and will be a great team mate.”
And, with the Osman connection in Bracknell, he was able to get an up to date scouting report.
He said: “I spoke to Steve Osman about him, and he was really positive about their time in Bracknell together playing NIHL1. They also played some time on the same line.
“Speaking to Tamas, he’s really keen to get back to playing and lining up as a Pitbull come September. He was excited by what we are trying to build here in Bristol and really wants to be part of it and try and help us to be successful. I’m looking forward to getting to work with him once again when pre season gets started.”
