Richie Hargreaves will be lacing up his skates for the final time as he forms a team of past and present teammates to take on brother Mike and his team on Saturday, May 28th at Planet Ice Bristol (face-off time TBC imminently) in what is their retirement/testimonial game.

With careers spanning four decades, Mike and Rich have plenty of players to choose from and names will be announced before May 28th. There will be plenty of familiar faces for all, regardless of how long you’ve watched hockey for.

Richie started his career in Cardiff with the Capitals back in 1996 before going on to play for the Cardiff Rage, on the Isle of Wight for the Raiders, Basingstoke Bison (in both BNL and EIHL), Slough Jets, London Racers, Cardiff Devils, Swindon Wildcats and the Oxford City Stars over the following 12 years before founding the Bristol Pitbulls in 2009. Rich will have celebrated turning 44 by the time this game comes around and he ices for the final time in his illustrious career.

Despite not formally announcing his retirement, Mike Hargreaves has confirmed he will step away from the first team into more of a backroom role for the Pitbulls, whilst being available for the 2s if required. He debuted in senior hockey with Richie at the Cardiff Capitals, before playing for the Wightlink Raiders, Mike also played for Swindon Lynx & Wildcats as well as the Oxford City Stars up until founding the Pitbulls with Richie in 2009.

The brothers have combined for over 600 appearances for the Pitbulls since 2009, with Mike just thirteen appearances behind his brother (310-297).

Tickets are set to go on sale in the coming days for what will be a very entertaining night, the pricing will be the same as first team home fixtures have been throughout the 21/22 season. The bar will be open much to the relief of the players so you can expect to share a drink with them after the game.

Replica merchandise will be available on the night alongside a jersey auction for the game worn jerseys. If you wish to sponsor the beautiful jerseys (see below), please email us at bristolpitbulls@hotmail.co.uk.
