Steve Couzens, a legend of Bristol ice hockey, will return to the Bristol Honda Pitbulls in his role as an assistant coach. Couzens will also be playing in the Hargreaves vs Hargreaves testimonial game on May 28th.
Steve has a storied career on the ice, having played in the 70s, 80s & 90s notably for the Avon Arrows and the Bristol Bulldogs. Upon his retirement in 1993, Steve went straight into coaching, mainly focussing on junior coaching up until the closure of the rink on Frogmore Street and had a big impact on many Pitbulls past and present.
From there, Steve came on board with the Pitbulls with their formation as a bench coach, being around the team throughout their successful seasons on the road. He is a much loved character in the locker room as well as in the wider hockey community and Pitbulls are delighted to welcome him back.
Steve has been heavily involved in hockey for around half a century and shows no sign of stepping away, and was delighted to return. He said, “I’m very excited about returning and helping the Pitbulls where I can. It was a fantastic season in NIHL1 South and having been involved since the beginning, it’s been great to see the players and club grow and I’m very privileged to have been a part of it.”
As mentioned in the opening, Steve is the first player to be announced to be playing in the Hargreaves vs Hargreaves testimonial, more players will be announced over the next week.
