Following on from the six skaters announced for the Hargreaves vs Hargreaves game earlier this evening, the four netminders for next Saturday’s game have been confirmed. 

Representing Team Mike between the pipes will be 21-22 Pitbull John Dibble along with Matthew van der Velden. Meanwhile Richie will have the services of Chris Douglas and Greg Blais.  

John Dibble has been a Pitbull netminder for much of his career, first playing for the Pitbulls in 2009 where he remained until 2016. A spell with the Invicta Dynamos followed before splitting 2018-19 between Bristol and Oxford. Dibble return to Invicta alongside the Wildcats 2s in 19-20 before returning to Bristol for the first season at The Pound. Dibble was a key part of the double winning 14-15 side, sporting a .939 save percentage in the regular season and .943% in the playoffs. 

Matthew van der Velden came through the youth setup in Cardiff with the brothers in the late 90s before moving to Romford. Four seasons with Invicta followed before spells with London Racers in the Elite League and in Milton Keynes & Chelmsford. Matthew finished his career playing a solitary game for the Pitbulls in 2010-11 and he is a two-time EPIHL Champion. 

Chris Douglas also came through in Cardiff with the brothers, playing for GB at junior level. Dougie’s most successful spell was in the early 00s, winning the EPIHL playoffs with Romford in 2001 before leading the division in save% the following season. Spells with Haringey, Chelmsford & Swindon followed before two years in Bracknell which saw Dougie win his second EPIHL playoff title as well as the regular season title. Dougie returned to Swindon before splitting the 11-12 season between Oxford and Bristol. Dougie then went onto play for Bracknell, Invicta, Raiders, Chelmsford, Slough & Cardiff Fire before returning to Bristol, where he is currently player/coach of the 2s. 

Canadian born, Greg Blais spent his early career coming through the junior systems in Ontario before playing in the NCAA for Suffolk, where he was named captain for his final season. Blais then got his first taste of British hockey for the Wightlink Raiders in 2006-07, spells in Belgium, France, USA, Norway & Romania followed before Blais returned to the UK, playing for Telford, Hull, Cardiff, Fife, Peterborough before finishing his playing career with Raiders IHC in 2020. Blais has been employed as a goaltending coach for much of the last decade, a role he currently holds with the Oxford City Stars, where he iced as the emergency back-up once this season.
