The Bristol Honda Pitbulls are delighted to announce the signing of import Alex Roberts, who signs a one-year contract in BS10.

Born in British Colombia, Canada, Roberts joins after recording 47 goals and 36 assists for the Basingstoke Bison in 2021-22, his goal tally being second best in the league and leading all imports. Pre-Covid, Roberts also had a spell in Streatham and a season playing for Mont-Blanc in France.

Previous to that, Roberts had spent the rest of his career in North America, playing in various junior leagues in western Canada before representing Utica College in the NCAA for two seasons. Alex will be wearing number 94 on his back.

Alex was sold on the Pitbulls after visiting The Pound last season. He said. “I came to the Slough game last season in February, seeing the top-notch rink and incredible fan support drew me in initially, then conversations with Jamie [Elson] and the city itself helped as well.

“I’d say I’m a skilled, big and strong forward with a heavy shot, for me personally the aim next season is to have a better offensive year than I had last season. As a group it’s clear to see we are a young, skilled and fast team with plenty of talent and a team that know how to play hockey the right way. I’m looking forward to seeing what the team can do this season”

Head coach Jamie Elson had Roberts’ signature at the top of his wish list heading into the summer and is thrilled to get the signing over the line. He said “We are very excited to have Alex finally agreed and on board for the year ahead. Last season he had a big year with Basingstoke and obviously generated a lot of attention off the back of that. He put up a great points total and showed that he’s a big goal scorer at this level, which is exactly what we were looking for.

“We wanted an import that was going to be a real go to guy on the team offensively and a player who could put up big goals at big times. He’s got a heavy shot and with that he can be a threat anywhere in the offensive zone. He’ll be a big player for us on the PP, which is an area we really want to be great at this season.

“Adam Harding played alongside him last season and had nothing but good things to say about Alex and the type of guy and player he is, and what he would bring to the group this season. We’ve been speaking for a long while here through the summer and he was the first import on our wish list, so we are thrilled to have him agree to be a Pitbull for the season ahead.”
