The Bristol Honda Pitbulls are delighted to announce a further four members of the NIHL2 roster for the upcoming season. Youngster Samuel Davies is joined by three players dropping down from last season’s NIHL1 roster, John Dibble, Olly Shone & Tom Asprey

Born in Wales, Davies (17) has split his youth career across the south, playing for the Cardiff Devils, Basingstoke Bison and in Guildford. Davies swapped Guildford for Bristol last season, playing 8 games, scoring one and assisting two.

John Dibble, 34, sits fourth in all-time appearances (247) for the Pitbulls having spent much of his career with Bristol. First playing in 09-10, Dibble remained a Pitbull until a two-year spell in Invicta from 2016. Years split between Oxford/Bristol and then Invicta/Swindon followed before returning to Bristol last season. Dibble had a .901 save percentage last season for the Pitbulls, garnering a 9-6 record in the process.

Olly Shone, 29, sits one place below Dibble for the Pitbulls in appearances (235), leads the team in goals (193), 4th for assists (125) and 3rd for points (318), having played for the Pitbulls since 2011-12. Olly began his career in Slough and had a one-year hiatus in Oxford before re-joining the Pitbulls for the 21-22 campaign, where he scored 11 goals and put up 17 assists in 34 games. We would like to thank Gurt Wings for continuing their sponsorship of Olly into the 2022-23 season.

Tom Asprey, 31, is another one of the eight players to have pulled on a Pitbulls jersey more than 200 times (216) and was captain for much of the time the Pitbulls spent on the road, including the 15-16 double winning side. Asprey came through the youth setup in Swindon and played for their ENL team before joining in Bristol, where he has played ever since. Asprey played 34 games for the NIHL1 side last season, scoring once and adding 7 assists.

Pitbulls GM Jamie Elson is pleased to have the NIHL1 experience added to the NIHL2 roster for next season. He said “It’s exciting to be announcing these guys to our NIHL2 set up for the year ahead. We talk a lot about our ambition to have a strong and competitive set up as a club from top to bottom, making us a complete organisation with a strong base. Having a second team that is going to be competing at the top end of their division and with players and that we feel can step up and help us provide added depth and cover at National level if required is important to us.

“I look at Telford and the success they had last season across the two teams, and how the two support each other and its very much infrastructure we want to create here in Bristol. Having Olly, John and Tom involved is huge. They were all instrumental to our success as a team in NIHL1 last year, and more than that are all unbelievable people off the ice. They are all guys who were all in 100% and were passionate about Bristol hockey and about winning each week.

“They will make that NIHL2 set up a great environment for sure. Sam is a younger player with great potential. He has real high-end speed and a great skill set and is certainly a player that will be dangerous in that league and has the potential to play at higher levels as he develops. These guys added to the four already announced are the start a good group.”
