The Drive Bristol North Pitbulls faced their first double header this weekend against the Telford Tigers.

The team made the trip up to Telford on Saturday and managed to generate an early lead with Cam Hamill scoring just over ten minutes into the first period. This lead was doubled in the second period as Jake Bricknell pushed the puck over the line, giving the Pitbulls a two-goal cushion. Despite this, the Tigers were quick to retaliate, racking up four goals in the following ten minutes coming from Smith, Shudra, Somerton and McPhee, forcing the Pitbulls into a deficit. This didn’t stop the battle, however, with the Pitbulls coming out in the third ready to push for two goals to equalise, with Max Wigfield getting the first, chased by Hamill getting his second of the evening and taking the game to overtime. The Pitbulls started on the power play; however, they were unable to find an opportunity to light the lamp, but as Owen Smetham was called for a tripping penalty, the Tigers took advantage of their extra player, allowing Thomson to score the winning goal.

Both teams were back and raring to go on Sunday as the Pitbulls played their first home game of the season. Throughout the night both teams were chasing the scoreline, taking it in turns to catch up with each other and equalise on goals, with Thomson scoring twice for the Tigers in the first period and Bricknell and McGill scoring for the home team. The chase continued into the second, with Bricknell and Harry Ferguson bringing the game to three a side. McPhee took the lead again for the visitors minutes into the third period; however, Dunbar was quick to settle it. The gloves were off following this, which caused Batch and McKenzie, as well as Fielder for the away team, to leave the ice early for the remainder of the match. This didn’t stop the flow of relentless goals, however, with Brown and Smetham once again going back-to-back, taking the game to overtime once again as the score sat at 5-5 at the end of regulation time. Shudra took the final goal of the game with 22 seconds of overtime remaining, cutting through the home team to secure the second win of the weekend for Telford.
