Maskalans Heads West

The Drive North Bristol Pitbulls are excited to announce the signing of Latvian forward Nils Maskalans for the next two seasons.

Originally from Latvia, Nils began his hockey journey in Peterborough before returning to his native country to continue his development with HS Falcons. Following a short spell overseas, the talented young forward returned to UK shores, spending time in Belfast before settling in Romford over the past two seasons.

During his time in Romford, Nils split his ice time between the Buccaneers and Raiders, gaining valuable NIHL experience and recording 44 points across 79 games. Still developing his game, Nils now heads west looking to make his mark in Bristol and add further depth and competition to the Pitbulls line-up ahead of September.

Richie Hargreaves commented:

“Nils was a really pleasant surprise for us, as he’s moving to Bristol to further his education at Bristol University. After watching footage of him, it was clear to see he’ll complement our line-up and add healthy competition within the squad.

Over a long season, keeping bodies in the line-up and giving ourselves the opportunity to compete every night is key. Teams in this league have shown that having depth throughout the roster leads to success.

I’m really pleased we’ve been able to bring Nils in for the next two seasons. With his background, development, and existing NIHL experience, he’ll help raise the standard within the group. He’s a smart kid with a good hockey IQ, a great skater, and someone who is confident in his ability. Nils is keen to get going, and we’re excited to get him into Bristol colours.”
